During Cathedral Choir holiday and certain Diocesan services such as the General Synod, we are glad to be able to welcome visiting choirs to sing the services in Cathedral.

The Cathedral Choir is the mainstay of our liturgical life but when they are on holiday, visiting choirs allow us to continue to offer this sung pattern of worship which is central to our mission. We recognize that this is a major undertaking for many choirs and we are grateful for the time and effort which goes into the planning and preparation.

Choirs who wish to sing in the Cathedral must demonstrate their ability to lead this act of worship with a high degree of musical competence and liturgical awareness. We expect that the psalms, responses and hymns are given the same emphasis as the canticles and anthem; that choirs will come prepared to lead the spoken as well as the sung parts of the service.
